These works, completed and exhibited in 2000, use the grids, colors, and forms of game boards as a starting point for an investigation of the rules and players of our personal interactions. Games are magic. Without hope of rational outcome we willingly subject ourselves to exacting rules. The thrill of indeterminacy coupled to seductive spatial realms accounts for our intrigue. In these boards, however, there are no objective rules to restrict play. The layers of images add up as they are painted, collaged, and constructed. The viewer creates her own game as she navigates the small worlds.
